Brock Banks is a former middle/high school teacher and soon-to-be medical school student at the University of Mississippi Medical College. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in July 2000. Since that time, he has successfully managed the disease and served as an advocate in the diabetes community. He has mentored those newly diagnosed with diabetes, volunteered at JDRF and ADA events, and ran the Dash for a Cure in Barrington, IL in May 2009. He currently lives on the Mississippi Gulf Coast with his wife.

Brock has never let diabetes stop him from accomplishing his goals. He graduated high school as the valedictorian of his class. Afterwards, he attended Marquette University where he graduated summa cum laude and was inducted into the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He held numerous leadership roles in college including Marquette University Student Government President in 2007-08. After college, he entered a two year service-through-teaching program where he taught middle/high school social studies on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. In 2009, he was named the Mississippi Power Education Foundation Outstanding First Year Teacher. Even though he enjoyed teaching, he decided that medicine was his true calling and hopes to one day use the skills he developed as a teacher as a primary care physician in Mississippi.
Brock enjoys helping people with diabetes. Please do not hesitate to ask questions by leaving comments on the blog or by following him on Twitter.
